Lucas Powell is a indie folk rock singer-songwriter based in metro-Detroit. Inspired by artists like Noah Gundersen, Pinegrove, and The War on Drugs, Lucas uses autobiographical storytelling to invite the audience to collectively sing, celebrate, grieve, and introspect.
In 2024, Powell teamed up with producer Jake Rye (Michigander) for two singles, Lose You On My Own and Let Me Down. Both songs highlighted Powell’s diverse songwriting, balancing themes of gaslighting and grief packaged as indie rock anthems.
Powell has released two full-length, self-produced records: Michigan (released in August 2021) and A Ten Pound Bag of Rice (released in May 2023). In the past two years, his music has been featured on Audiotree Presents and Kickstand Production playlists, and has been played on WYCE Grand Rapids as well as many other Michigan indie stations.
Powell has played numerous live performances across Michigan and the upper midwest including Lansing’s Grewal Hall and historic Detroit venues like El Club, The Magic Bag, The Blind Pig and The Pike Room. In 2021, Powell was featured in Old Main Record’s “BareBones” virtual music festival, and has opened for Vista Kicks, Yellow Ostrich, bugsy, and local legends Frontier Ruckus.
